Zenith Bank Plc is set to launch the maiden edition of its Girl-Child Empowerment Programme, an initiative aimed at inspiring young girls to dream boldly, develop the skills and confidence to pursue their aspirations, and prepare for meaningful opportunities in the future.
The event, themed “Banking On Her Tomorrow,” is the brainchild of the Bank’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, OON, the first female GMD/CEO in Zenith Bank’s history and a strong advocate for girl-child education and empowerment.
The event will be held virtually on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., a day after the International Day of the Girl Child, observed globally on October 11.
The programme, which will feature an impressive lineup of distinguished experts in various fields, seeks to provide girls with the inspiration, knowledge and practical perspectives needed to navigate their education and careers, while exposing them to opportunities in skills development, mentorship and leadership.
As an annual platform, it will encourage girls to recognise their potential, broaden their aspirations and equip themselves to make informed choices about their future.
The initiative builds on Zenith Bank’s longstanding commitment to women and girls, demonstrated through programmes and platforms including the Bank’s annual International Women’s Day Seminar, its sole sponsorship of the Zenith Women’s Basketball League, the Women of Honour Awards in partnership with the Ford Foundation, and the Pad-a-Queen Initiative.
These complement the Bank’s women-focused financial solutions, including the Z-Woman initiative, an empowerment programme that supports women-owned and women-led businesses through specialised funding, capacity building and networking.
Together, these initiatives reflect the Bank’s broader commitment to supporting women and girls at different stages of their lives, and to contributing meaningfully to national development. This maiden edition is open to all, with girls, parents, educators and other members of the public invited to participate.

A Journey of Revival and Growth
The Rotary Club of Abule-Egba Metropolitan has a history of resilience and revival. The club emerged following the collapse of an earlier club in June 2009, which was attributed to members’ lack of commitment and insufficient dedication to its growth.
Determined to revive the Rotary spirit, members and stakeholders worked towards establishing a new club. The first organised meeting of the Rotary Club of Abule-Egba Metropolitan was held on August 26, 2010.
The club subsequently received its charter on April 15, 2011, at the Rotary Centre in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, with Rtn. Jimmy Irinnoyenikan serving as its Charter President.
Since its establishment, the club has continued its journey within the Rotary movement, promoting fellowship and service while working towards its organisational goals.

New Leadership, Renewed Commitment
The installation of Rtn. Surveyor Adejimi Olalekan Abiodun as the club’s 16th President will mark another milestone in its leadership journey.
He will succeed the outgoing administration led by Rtn. Adeola B. Felix, who served as the immediate past President. Rtn. Aderibigbe A. Yomi is the President-Elect.
The forthcoming ceremony will also provide an opportunity to mobilise support for the club’s activities and community-oriented initiatives through fundraising.
The event’s emphasis on service and impact reflects Rotary’s broader mission of bringing people together to address community needs and promote goodwill.

LOPE Celebrates Nigerian Teachers, Calls for Better Welfare and Support
The League of Online Publishers and Editors (LOPE) has celebrated teachers across Nigeria and around the world on World Teachers’ Day, calling for better welfare for educators and development in the education sector in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Favour Benson, in commemoration of World Teachers’ Day, the association said teachers remain central to the development of any nation, noting that they shape the character and prospects of young people.
LOPE praised Nigerian teachers who continue to serve in difficult circumstances, particularly those working in the rural communities where schools face shortages of learning materials, infrastructure, and other basic resources needed to create a conducive learning environment.
The association called on the Federal and state governments to pay more attention to the education sector in Nigeria. This, it said, must include better working conditions for teachers, access to continuous training, adequate teaching resources, and an environment that allows them to perform their duties effectively.
Benson said Nigerian teachers deserve greater recognition for their contribution to national development, urging governments and other stakeholders to make their welfare a priority.
“As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, LOPE salutes teachers across Nigeria for their dedication and sacrifice despite the challenges they face in the education sector.
“Every strong nation is built on the foundation of quality education, and teachers are at the heart of that process. We cannot expect better educational outcomes while neglecting the people responsible for educating our children,” she opined.
The LOPE Chairman continued that: “Teachers deserve to work in an environment where they are respected, fairly rewarded and given the tools and training required to succeed.”
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5 to honor educators and evaluate the status of the teaching profession worldwide.
The day also highlights issues affecting teachers, including working conditions, professional development, remuneration, recruitment, and retention.
On improving education in Nigeria, LOPE called on the Federal Government, state governments, and relevant education sector authorities to strengthen policies aimed at improving teachers’ welfare and working conditions.
The association called on the government to increase the education budget both at the federal and state levels, expand professional development programmes, provide modern teaching materials, and ensure that schools have adequate facilities for both teachers and students.
Similarly, LOPE called on the Nigerian media to continue giving attention to education-related issues and to highlight the contributions and challenges of teachers through responsible journalism.
