Naijanewsngr– The Rivers State government has responded to a new Federal High Court order in Abuja, which stopped local government allocations.

According to the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, the ruling wasn’t surprising, given the developments during the court case.

When the judge refused to add the 23 Council Chairmen as parties, declined the state’s request to change its lawyer, and dismissed our jurisdiction objection, we saw this coming,” Johnson said on Wednesday, October 30.

He added that the state government has appealed the decision and remains hopeful that the Court of Appeal will reverse the ruling.

The judgment, issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja, ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop payments to Rivers State local government councils.

The decision comes amid ongoing tensions between former Rivers governor Nyesom Wike and the current governor, Siminialayi Fubara.
