Sanwo-Olu ordered an investigation into the Lagos student who was sent away from school over Peter Obi’s poster.

The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the State Ministry of Education to launch an investigation into a parent’s complaint that their child was expelled from school for using a poster of Peter Obi, one of the candidates in the most recent election, to wrap his books.

NaijaNews reports that the headmaster of Odomola Secondary School in Epe, Lagos, reportedly sent 10-year-old Marvellous Barinaada home for allegedly covering her book with a poster of Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.

Marvellous’ mother, who took to social media to decry the situation, appealed to Nigerians to come to the family’s rescue, saying the girl was a political and just 10 years old.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, who announced the measure on Wednesday, said the governor has approved the recall of the principal, who will be asked to explain the incident.

“The Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Education, and all its agencies will never instruct any school principal, personnel, or teacher to act in such a manner,” Adefisayo stated.

The commissioner reassured the public that “the matter would be dealt with within the scope of our strict regulations as the reason for sending home the student is unacceptable, if true.”

Adefisayo also stated that another school principal at Odonguyan who was caught on camera, as shared on social media, promoting her political choice to the students has been subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures.

“The Ministry promotes and runs a public school system devoid of politics and political insinuations.

“A thorough investigation of the matter will be carried out, and anyone found culpable will be subjected to disciplinary measures as laid down in the civil service rules,” Adefisayo stated.

Wike vs Fubara: You are disrespecting Tinubu—APC Chairman blasts Rivers governor

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused Governor Sim Fubara of disrespecting President Bola Tinubu amid his rift with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in the state, Tony Okocha, said Fubara has not fulfilled all the proclamations made by Tinubu at the peace deal with Wike.

He spoke at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt while addressing defectors joining the party.

Okocha said: “It will amount to barefaced disobedience for Gov. Siminalayi not to follow all eight indices in the proclamation made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in response to the Rivers State political crisis.

“His continued refusal to present the Rivers State 2024 budget to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly under Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule (Speaker), as captured in index 6.

“The flagrant cold feet in the conduct of local government elections (see index 8) are signs of disrespect for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The APC Rivers (which is Mr. President‘s Party) stoutly condemns this act of disobedience perpetrated by Gov. Fubara and warns against the likely concomitant fallouts.”
