The Weeknd makes history as he becomes Spotify's first artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners

The Weeknd, a Canadian singer, has become the first artist to surpass 100 million monthly Spotify listeners, just days after releasing a remix of his song Die for You with Ariana Grande.

According to Billboard, the news was confirmed by the digital music service on Monday, and the new milestone puts him far ahead of Miley Cyrus, who has 82.5 million listeners, Taylor Swift, who has 80.3 million, and rapper Drake, who has 68.6 million.

His most recent collaboration, which was an instant hit with fans, is the fourth time he has collaborated with Grande on a song.The latest achievement comes just days after the release of his televised concert, Live at SoFi Stadium, which documented one of his sold-out Los Angeles shows.

Throughout his career, the Canadian singer has received four Grammy Awards, twenty Billboard Music Awards, and has been nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy.

Blinding Lights, the Toronto-based musician’s hit, became the first song in Billboard Hot 100 history to remain in the Top 10 for an entire year in 2021.

The artist, whose full name is Abel Tesfaye, previously set a record by staying in the Top 5 for 43 weeks.

As part of its commitment to continually empower the youth through various entrepreneurial initiatives, Retail giant, Access Bank has rewarded 55 members of the batch A, stream two corps members across Nigeria with various cash grants.

A total of N15.5million was given out to corps members with winning entrepreneurial ideas in Abuja, Delta, Kaduna, Kwara and Rivers States with the star winners receiving N1 million each.

“We understand the role young people play in the community and the nation, and we are committed to supporting their aspirations. The youths represent the future and hope of Nigeria. We will do all we can to support their innovative ideas,” said Njideka Esomeju, Group Head of Consumer Banking.

 

“Access Bank has been in a strategic partnership with NYSC since 2016. The relationship further evolved into the launch of Accessprenuer: The NYSC edition in February 2021. We have completed 13 editions of Accessprenuer competition, impacting 490 corps members with N195million seed capital.

 

“We have a Facebook community where the winners of this editions will interact freely amongst themselves and inspire young entrepreneurs with similar aspirations. The facebook community has about 5,800 members,” Njide concluded.

 

The star prize winner in Rivers, Obot, who wants to go into palm oil business, thanked Access Bank for motivating him with a seed capital to realize his dream and have a brighter future.

Second runner up winner in Abuja, Nifemi Ademola, who pitched on tomatoes harvesting and reproduction and won N700,000 thanked the bank for the initiative.

 

“The seed capital money I won today will really assist to expand my business and also help me to acquire more tools that I need for efficient production in the future,” he added.

 

Ugah Ebuka, one of the N400,000 winner in Kwara said: “A very big thank you to Access Bank and I pray that utilizing this cash for what it is actually meant for, my business will not just grow but be heard across the globe.”

 

The Bank also rewarded other corps members across the country in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th -10th positions with N400,000, N250,000, N150,000, and N100,000 respectively.

Veteran Yoruba actor, Prince Adewale Adeyemo, died on Monday morning after a brief illness.

 

 

NaijaNews reports that the news was announced by fellow actor Kunle Afod on his Instagram page. Sharing a picture of the deceased, Afod wrote, “Hmmmm, God, you know best. RIP, Prince Adewale Adeyemo.

 

“He passed away in the early hours of today after a brief illness. God will comfort all his family, friends, and colleagues.” This comes hours after the Yoruba movie industry held a night of tribute for the late Murphy Afolabi, who passed on May 14, 2023.

Afolayan, Bakre, Broda Shagi win awards at AMVCA 2023

 

Nigeria’s film producer, Kunle Afolayan’s movie, “Anikulapo” on Saturday won the Best Indigenous Language (Yoruba) category in the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) held in Lagos.

 

Another Nigerian, Tobi Bakre won the Best Actor in a Drama Series while Osas Ighodaro went home with the Best Actress award in the same category.

 

Other award winners in the event held at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, are Bimbo Ademoye who got the Best Actress in a Comedy while Animashaun Samuel aka Broda Shaggi got the Best Actor in a Comedy Drama for Movie, or TV Series.

 

Shaggi got the award for his effort in a movie titled: “Inside Life.”
