Ernest Shonekan Is Buried In A 30 Million Vault With An 8 Million Casket
NaijaNews reports that Ernest Shonekan, the former Interim National Government (ING) leader, was buried in an N30 million vault in Lagos on Friday.
In a telephone interview with The ICIR, Temitope Alebiosu, a staff member of Ebony Vaults, Ikoyi, the burial home that handled the ceremony, said the vault cost more than N30 million.
But she didn’t say how much it cost.
When asked how much the casket cost, she estimated it to be around N8 million.
Tunde Babalola, another Ebony Vaults employee, told The ICIR that vaults in the luxury category cost between N30 million and N50 million.
Babalola refused to state the exact cost of the vault Shonekan was buried in, but he pointed out that it was specially customized for the family.
“The one we used for Shonekan, something similar can be in the range of N45 million to N50 million depending on which one someone wants. The premium cost is between N30 and N35 million,” he said.
Shonekan died in January in Lagos.
Speaking at the funeral service held at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Lagos, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo commended the late leader and said he lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation.
