Miyetti Allah Tells Ortom About the Open Grazing Ban: “We’re Open For Discussion.”
NaijaNews reports that Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria chastised Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday for enacting a law prohibiting open grazing.
The body stated that it was not interested in exchanging words, but rather in putting an end to the senseless killing of innocent people.
The National Secretary of MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, stated this in an interview with The PUNCH in Abuja in response to Ortom’s Chief Secretary, Terver Akase, who claimed that it was fueling crises over the law.
Ngelzarma, on the other hand, stated that MACBAN’s doors “will remain open for constructive discussions to find lasting solutions that will put an end to all these uncivilised behaviors.”
“We also believe that the Benue State governor has sworn to protect the lives and economic well-being of all his citizens, regardless of their socioeconomic/ethno-religious backgrounds.
“The law only serves to bankrupt farmers and herders by suffocating them. Ortom, a deeply religious man, is well aware that he will be held accountable by the Almighty for how he governs his state during his tenure as governor.
He added, “Our doors will remain open for constructive discussions to find lasting solutions that will bring to an end all this uncivilised behaviours.”
