Ortom to Buhari: Stop the Deception and Hypocrisy, if Katsina gets N6.25bn, give Benue N100bn too, for Ranching
NaijaNews Nigeria July 17, 2021
NaijaNews reports that the Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom said the Federal Government’s approval of N6.25 billion for ranching in Katsina State and subsequent release of N5billion was the height of deception and hypocrisy, while the same government is building cattle routes and encouraging open grazing in other parts of the country.
This online news medium gathered that Governor Ortom was speaking at Makurdi Airport in response to Governor Bello Masari’s revelation at the Zobe Water Project commissioning in Dutsima, Katsina State.
Mr Masari, The President has kindly granted N6.25 billion for ranch development in Katsina State, with N5 billion in the state government’s account.”
Governor Ortom demanded that the federal government apologize to him and make a similar gesture to Benue State by giving N100 billion for the construction of ranches in the state.
“So, Mr President, N6.5 billion has been granted for ranching in Katsina State,” he said. Isn’t this the height of hypocrisy? Are we even a serious country?
“If the President would say that the Attorney-General of the Federation should ensure that those who have encroached on cattle routes and grazing areas are relocated to open grazing areas, despite the fact that the population has increased from less than 40 million in 1950 to more than 200 million today;
“And the same President is pushing ranching in Katsina State, where he was born, which is ludicrous, dishonest, and deceitful.
“It’s a pity, but we need an explanation. We’ve been pro-ranching since 2017, and you may recall that the Governor of Katsina State said it’s unIslamic for anyone to talk about open grazing.
“The prohibition of open grazing, as well as the provision for ranching, is the only thing that will aid this country.
“So, if the President has authorized N6.5 billion for Katsina State, they should sanction N100 billion for Benue State in exchange for an apology to me.
“It is not right for the Federal Government to approve money for ranching in a state and leave others out.
“And in fact, the governor of the state, in his remark, said N5 billion had already been remitted to their coffers. So I begin to wonder, where are we headed?”
Governor Ortom, who lamented “the level of unbearable poverty and hunger the APC-led Federal Government has unleashed on Nigerians,” said the prophecy of late Fela Anikulakpo-Kuti of Nigerians suffering and smiling was currently playing out in the country.
